Altior team still inclined to head to King George

Nicky Henderson hasno qualms about pitching Altior from Cyrname back, despite visiting his stable stars 19-race unbeaten run ended at Ascot.
In what was the double Champion Chase winners first start beyond two and a couple miles cyrname proved a quarter lengths also great in the Christy 1965 Chase for Altior.
Hendersons initial plan was to measure up to three miles to get the Ladbrokes King George VI Chase on Boxing Day – which would create a second struggle with the Paul Nicholls-trained Cyrname – and also that race has not yet been ruled out, together with the Seven Barrows handler retaining complete religion in Altiors stamina.
But, Henderson is keen to realize how Altior recovers before committing to your target, along with the nine-year-old is set forprecautionary post-race evaluations on Monday.
He told his Unibet blog:I have no doubt he got the trip, but on that ground it was finally race fitness that took its own toll, because hed had noaway days or racecourse gallops, so Id like to think he will improve to the run anyhow.
Without searching for explanations, I dont really think he went together with his customary zest – to be frank I thought Nico (de Boinville) could have difficulty holding him, therefore I guess the ground does have anything to do with this.
But well get him fully assessed over tomorrow morning, purely as a precautionary measure, and assess the situation after that.
Credit is given by henderson but confirms too a re-match is on his mind.
He did his level best, as always – however, like I feared would have to occur one day, he got beaten by a better horse on the day, and thats exactly what horse racing is all about.
Take nothing away from Cyrname – he is a very talented animal and deserves the plaudits he gets.
Ive just had a very long chat with (proprietor ) Pat Pugh, and shes great about the whole thing – quite philosophical as always, and were definitely not ruling anything out.
Where we go next, I dont know, but I definitely would not eliminate the King George because that has always been the long-term plan – though if its truly heavy ground perhaps we would need to rethink, but I would have no qualms about choosing Cyrname back again.
I would say Kempton is the most likely next quit when hes healthy and well, however it all is dependent upon how long it takes to get over this; if it is two weeks, then that is how long it will take.
He puts a lot to his races, literally his heart and soul, which explains precisely exactly why hes so good – so he will be awarded as long as is necessary.
Despite visiting Altior relinquish his unbeaten record Henderson stays satisfied there could have nothing to benefit from skipping an early-season battle with Cyrname – who is the highest-rated chaser in practice.
He added:You never need to give horses a challenging race in their very first return, and we were sort of using it like a preparation for something else, whereas I believe Cyrname was fully tuned up for his reappearance.
However there wasnt any way I could have ducked out of the race due to this floor, since itd had such a huge build-up for so long and I would have looked pretty ridiculous if we had swerved it thats no good to anybody.
The main issue is he is absolutely A1 this morning and lives to fight another day.
